CookEat — Recipe App
CookEat is a recipe app built around one simple idea — cook what you already have. No missing ingredients, no last-minute grocery runs. Just open the fridge, add what's there, and get recipes that actually work.

I led the full design process — from research and user personas through UX flows, visual identity, and final UI. The challenge was making the "cook from your fridge" concept feel immediate and effortless, not like a chore.
Most recipe apps assume you'll go shopping. CookEat flips the model — you start with what you have, and the app works around you. The design had to make that feel natural and fast, so users would actually reach for it before ordering takeout.
Users weren't struggling to find recipes — they were struggling to find recipes they could actually make right now. They'd open an app, find something that looked good, and then abandon it the moment they saw a missing ingredient.
Key insight: the moment a recipe requires one missing ingredient, users abandon it.
I mapped the main competing apps to understand the gap:
Existing apps are built around discovering new recipes and planning ahead. None of them ask the most basic question first: what do you actually have right now?
That gap was the product opportunity — and the entire design challenge was to make answering that question as frictionless as possible.
goal: a fast, effortless flow from "what's in my fridge" to a recipe I can actually make.
After interviewing and observing real users, two distinct personas emerged — different lives, same frustration: opening the fridge and not knowing what to cook.
A young city woman with no time for grocery shopping, cooking whatever's left before it spoils. And a mother trying to put healthy meals on the table for her kids without daily supermarket runs. Both needed the same thing: a faster path from fridge to plate.
The name CookEat is a wordplay — cook it, eat it. Simple, direct, honest. The logo reflects that same energy: clean lines, a confident color, and a mark that works as well on a tiny app icon as it does on a splash screen.
The visual language across the app stays light and uncluttered — food photography does the heavy lifting, and the UI steps aside to let it breathe.
Quick sign-in via Facebook or Google — no friction, no forms. The app gets out of the way so users can get straight to cooking.
The core interaction is a single, prominent action — select your ingredients from a simple, scannable list, and get matched recipes instantly. No search bar, no guesswork.
For users who want inspiration rather than a specific dish — browsing by category gives a gentle nudge. Select a cuisine or meal type, and the app shows what basics you'd need, keeping expectations clear before diving in.
